Coding with Grade 1 English Language Learners -Planning and Preparations

After the huge success that was Day of Code in December.  I made the decision to jump in with several other grade levels, the youngest being first grade! Code.org has a great set of courses that are geared to different grade levels.
Courses offered by Code.org
I set out on this endeavor by first making account for each of my grade 1 classes (all four of them). I already had done this several times for my grade 5 classes but I made a few changes to the steps I took for creating them for grade 1 students.
First you need to create a new class and give it a name, then decide what kind of password this class should have. Since these are first graders I chose a picture.

Next select the grade level.

Then you pick the course and press save.

After pressing save click on "manage"

This will be the screen you seen after selecting manage. Click add multiple students.

Enter one name per line.

After entering all the names press done.

Next select the gender (and age if you wish) for each student and press save all.

Share the link highlighted above with your class, I do this through Edmodo.

After pressing save all this is how the screen will look.

Finally you need to generate and print the student long in cards by clicking "Print out cards with your students' login information"

This is what the picture password student logins look like.
I find it helpful to create a "sample" student for each class that you can model with.  You can model with a student's account just know that you will need to remind that student to still do the ones you modeled.
